"A builder of dreams and homes."

Hector Luis Navarro was a man who built things -- houses, families, and friendships that stood the test of time. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he moved to Miami with his parents as a child, growing up in a tight-knit community where he learned carpentry from his uncle. He turned that skill into a lifelong career as a contractor, running his own small business for over 30 years. Every home he worked on carried a piece of his pride, and he’d often point out buildings around town to us, saying, ‘I made that wall stronger.’ Dad was a family man through and through. He and Mom, Carmen, were married for 45 years, a partnership full of laughter, salsa dancing in the kitchen, and the occasional spirited argument over how to season the arroz con gandules. He adored his three kids and later his five grandchildren, teaching them how to swing a hammer and telling stories of his childhood on the island under the shade of mango trees. His hands were rough from work, but so gentle when he’d braid my hair or fix a broken toy. He loved baseball, cheering for the Marlins with a passion that bordered on obsession, and he’d grill the best pinchos on game days, inviting neighbors over to share in the feast. Sundays were for dominoes at the local park, where he’d play with old friends, cracking jokes in rapid-fire Spanish and always letting the younger players win a round or two. His humor was dry but warm, and he had a way of making even mundane errands feel like an adventure. In his last years, Parkinson’s took much of his strength, but never his spirit. He’d still try to tinker in his workshop, even if it was just sanding a small piece of wood, and he’d grin at us, saying, ‘I’ve still got it.’ Losing him feels like losing a foundation, but we know every lesson he taught us about hard work, loyalty, and love will keep us steady. Te queremos, Papá. Build something beautiful up there, and save a dominoes game for us.
