My mom worked the breakfast shift at the same little restaurant for almost twenty years. She knew every regular's order by heart. She clipped coupons even after she didn't need to anymore, habit I guess. She taped recipes to the inside of cabinet doors, so our kitchen always looked like a collage. She hated driving on highways but she would do it anyway if one of us needed her. She watched Wheel of Fortune every night and got genuinely annoyed when contestants bought unnecessary vowels. She died at home two days before Christmas. She was 73. We're keeping the recipes.
