Family Guide

What to do after you create your memorial — and how to make it last forever.

You just created something permanent. Here's how to protect it.

Your memorial is now anchored to the Bitcoin network. That anchor will outlast any company, any website, and any hard drive. But there are a few simple steps that will make sure your family can access and verify this memorial for decades to come.

This takes about 10 minutes. Please do it today.

Step 1 — Save your Transaction ID

Your Transaction ID (TXID) is the permanent address of your memorial's proof on the Bitcoin network. Think of it as your memorial's birth certificate on a ledger that no one can alter.

Where to find it:

  • In your confirmation email from EverstoneBTC
  • On your memorial's page under "Permanent Record"
  • In your downloaded offline viewer (see Step 2)

What to do with it:

  • Write it down somewhere physical (a notecard in your important documents folder)
  • Paste it into a note in your phone, email draft, or notes app
  • Include it in your estate documents

To verify it yourself at any time:

  1. Go to mempool.space
  2. Paste your TXID in the search bar
  3. You'll see the transaction — find the OP_RETURN output
  4. The data will say EVERSTONE: followed by your memorial's fingerprint

No account needed. No login. It's public.

Step 2 — Download Your Offline Viewer

Your offline viewer is a single file that contains your entire memorial — photos, biography, tributes — and works on any computer without an internet connection.

How to download:

  1. Go to your memorial page at everstonebtc.com
  2. Click "Download Offline Viewer"
  3. Save the .html file somewhere safe

What it contains:

  • The complete memorial (all photos, text, tributes)
  • Your Transaction ID and Bitcoin proof
  • Instructions for verifying the proof yourself

To open it: Just double-click the file. It opens in any web browser. No internet required.

Step 3 — Make Copies (The Most Important Step)

A file on one hard drive is not a backup. Here's what we recommend:

Minimum — do at least two of these:

  • USB thumb drive — copy the offline viewer file to a USB drive and store it with your important documents (will, insurance policies, etc.)
  • Email to yourself — attach the offline viewer to an email and send it to your own address as a permanent archive
  • Cloud storage — upload to Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, or similar

Better — the family archive approach:

  • Put the offline viewer file AND the TXID on a USB drive labeled with the person's name and year
  • Give a copy to the executor of the estate
  • Give a copy to 1-2 trusted family members in different locations
  • Include the TXID in estate documents so future generations know how to find the Bitcoin record

Best — the long-term preservation approach:

  • Everything above, plus:
  • Store a copy with your attorney or estate planner
  • Include a printed card at the gravesite or memorial service: "This memorial is permanently preserved. TXID: [your code]"
  • If QR codes were included with your package, affix them at the gravesite — they link directly to your memorial

Step 4 — Share the Memorial

Your memorial has a permanent public URL. You can share it anywhere:

  • Share the link in the obituary
  • Post it on social media
  • Include it in a memorial service program
  • Print a card with the QR code (if your package includes QR codes)

What Happens If EverstoneBTC Closes?

We built the system specifically to survive this scenario.

The Bitcoin proof:

Your TXID permanently records that your memorial existed. Anyone can look it up forever on any Bitcoin block explorer.

The offline viewer:

Your downloaded file is completely independent of us. It works with zero internet, zero accounts, zero subscriptions.

Your memorial URL:

If our servers go offline, the URL won't load — but the offline viewer and Bitcoin proof are your permanent record.

This is why Step 3 matters. The offline viewer is yours. We're just a convenience layer on top of something that was built to outlast us.
